La Lonchera Sushi and Wok announces cage-free egg policy in Colombia



The Colombian restaurant chain "La Lonchera" has announced a cage-free policy for egg-laying hens after dialogues with Sinergia Animal. The commitment will apply in its ten restaurants located in Bogotá, Medellín, Ibagué, and Chía.


La Lonchera is a restaurant specializing in sushi and wok, also offering numerous vegetarian and vegan options. Its new commitment to using 100% cage-free eggs can impact the lives of many animals positively.


Currently, around 50 million egg-laying hens in Colombia, 70% of which live confined in battery cages. This system is known for its cruelty: each hen has space available the size of an A4 sheet, which restricts much of their natural behaviors and encourages the development of painful diseases such as osteoporosis.
