PUBLIC POLICY LEAD

Location: Remote in (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand)

📍 Location: Remote – 1 position available per country (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, or Thailand).

Are you passionate about policy advocacy and animal protection? Join our team as a Public Policy Lead in your country and help drive systemic change from the inside out.

We are currently hiring five professionals, one in each of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Each selected candidate will be responsible for leading Sinergia Animal’s public policy strategy locally, collaborating with government stakeholders, civil society, and other partners to advance legislative change and promote animal welfare.

Terms of Employment: Full Time (40 hours per week) 

Reports to: Country Director

Location: Remote - One position available per country - Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, and Thailand

Language requirement: Fluency in your country’s official language (Spanish, Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia, or Thai) and advanced to fluent English.

Rated as one of the world's most effective animal protection organizations by Animal Charity Evaluators, Sinergia Animal is an international campaigning organization working in countries in the Global South (specifically Latin America and Southeast Asia) to reduce animal suffering and promote more compassionate food choices. 

We use negotiations, investigations, peaceful direct actions, and innovative campaigning methods to expose the suffering of farmed animals and to help build a world in which no animals are exploited for food.

About the Position

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Public Policy Lead to join our National team. In this role, you will be responsible for researching, developing, and implementing our advocacy and public policy strategies to advance our mission. This position plays a key role in engaging with policymakers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to drive legislative and regulatory changes that align with our organization’s goals.

 

The Public Policy Lead will oversee policy initiatives, ensure alignment with the organization’s strategy, track developments, and collaborate closely with the local Managing Director to ensure effective execution of public policy efforts. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of public affairs and policy-making processes.

 

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing public policy strategies to influence public policies and legislation in alignment with the organization’s mission.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with policymakers, government officials, and key stakeholders.

  • Monitoring legislative developments, regulatory changes, and political trends to identify opportunities for advocacy.

  • Leading policy campaigns, coordinating outreach efforts, and representing the organization in meetings, hearings, and public forums.

  • Collaborating with internal teams to develop policy recommendations, briefing materials, and advocacy reports.

  • Working closely with the local Managing Director to ensure policy initiatives are effectively executed and aligned with organizational priorities.

  • Engaging with civil society organizations, coalitions, and media to strengthen advocacy efforts and amplify impact.

  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and ethical standards in all advocacy activities.

  • Tracking progress on policy goals, measuring impact and adjusting strategies as needed to maximize effectiveness.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess most, if not all, of the following qualities, skills, and characteristics:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in political science, public policy, law, international relations, or a related field. 

  • Proven experience in public policy, engagement with politicians and legislators, government affairs, or advocacy.

  • Strong understanding of legislative and local regulatory processes.

  • Established network within government institutions and civil society.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex policy issues and develop actionable solutions.

  • Experience managing policy campaigns and working with coalitions.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

  • Fluency in your country’s official language (Spanish, Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia, or Thai) and advanced to fluent English.

  • Passion for social change, advocacy, and the organization’s mission.
