We use negotiations, investigations, peaceful direct actions, and innovative campaigning methods to expose the suffering of farmed animals and to help build a world in which no animals are exploited for food.

About the position

Sinergia Animal is seeking a Food Policy Lead to oversee a program to reduce the consumption of animal products in major public and private institutions in Colombia. This person will be responsible for networking with decision makers, creating and implementing concrete plans to help institutions to adopt at least one plant-based eating day per week in their restaurants.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building and maintaining a database of institutions’ profiles and key decision-makers in city halls, schools, universities, and other major institutions.

  • Establishing and maintaining contact with key institutional contacts via emails, phone calls, and meetings to persuade institutions to adopt a meat reduction program in their restaurants.

  • Giving lectures to institutions interested in implementing the program.

  • Together with the team, building a strategic plan with short- and long-term goals.

  • Coordinating and working with chefs, dietitians, nutritionists, and physicians to implement the program in the institutions.

  • Carrying out research according to program needs, mainly the environmental and human health benefits of implementing a meat reduction program.

  • Producing monthly reports about progress and actions needed for improvement.

  • Representing Sinergia Animal and its programs at public events, conferences, media events and within the NGO and animal protection communities at large. Respond to media requests together with the team (e.g. draft op-ed pieces and press releases, give media interviews, and maintain relationships with editorial boards and local media).

  • Build alliances with other international and/or grassroots NGOs and NGO coalitions.

  • Network and develop relationships with high-level Colombian government officials (e.g. Ministers of Health/Environment), intergovernmental organizations, and multinational corporations.
