NATIONAL FOOD POLICY MANAGER

Rated as one of the world’s most effective animal protection organizations by Animal Charity Evaluators, Sinergia Animal is an international campaigning organization working in countries from the Global South (South America and Southeast Asia) to reduce animal suffering and promote more compassionate food choices. We use negotiations, investigations, peaceful direct actions, and innovative campaigning methods to expose the suffering of animals in factory farms.

About the position

Sinergia Animal is seeking a  Food Policy Manager to start and oversee a program to reduce consumption of animal products in major public and private institutions in Indonesia. This person will be responsible for networking with decision makers, creating, and implementing concrete plans to help institutions to adopt, at least, one plant-based eating day per week in their restaurants.

 

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a database of institutions’ profiles and key decision makers in city halls, schools, universities and other major institutions.

  • Establish and keep contact with key institutional contacts via emails, phone calls, and meetings with the goal of persuading institutions to adopt a meat reduction program in their restaurants.

  • Give lectures to the institutions interested in implementing the program.

  • Together with the international teams, build a strategic plan with short- and long-term goals. 

  • Coordinate and work with chefs, dietitians, nutritionists and physicians to implement the program in the institutions.

  • Work with the social manager specialist to produce content for social media. 

  • Carry out research according to program needs, mainly the environmental and human health benefits of implementing a meat reduction program.

  • Produce monthly reports about progress and actions needed for improvement.

  • Represent Sinergia Animal and its programs at public events, conferences, media events and with the NGOs and animal protection communities at large. Response to media requests together with the international team (e.g., draft op-ed pieces and press releases, give media interviews, maintain relationships with editorial boards and local media).

  • Build alliances with other international and/or grassroots NGOs and NGO coalitions.

  • Network and develop relationships with high level Indonesian government officials (e.g., Ministers of Health, Environment), intergovernmental organizations and multinational corporations.

 

Requirements

  • Fluent in Bahasa and English. 

  • Desirable: key contacts with major stakeholders in Indonesia and previous experience in corporate engagement with major food companies and institutions.

  • Excellent ability to lead negotiations  in a kind and constructive manner.

  • Can-do attitude.

  • Excellent multitasking and time-management skills.

  • Excellent oral communication, writing, and proofreading skills.

  • Excellent research and networking skills.

  • Critical thinking and problem solving.

  • Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a remote team.

  • An affinity with animal rights issues and a vegan lifestyle are highly desirable.
